Probability Learning Path

Probability Learning Path

A Learning Path is a set of resources organized around a theme within the CSAFE Learning environment. Below, we've outlined resources relevant to one of our core concepts: Probability. You are not required to follow the topics or steps within a topic in sequential order. Instead, we encourage you to browse the library of resources and interact with those best suited to help you better understand statistics within the field.

Included in this Learning Path are the following learning opportunities:

Probability

 5 minutes

This beginner-level Stats Starter focuses on probability and its application to forensic evidence.

Stats Starters are easily digestible overviews that allow learners to explore a single foundational statistics concept and its application to forensic evidence. Each Stats Starter video includes an introduction and overview of the concept, statistical models and theories, and examples and applications.

Conditional Probability

 5 minutes

This beginner-level Stats Starter focuses on conditional probability and its application to forensic evidence.

Stats Starters are easily digestible overviews that allow learners to explore a single foundational statistics concept and its application to forensic evidence. Each Stats Starter video includes an introduction and overview of the concept, statistical models and theories, and examples and applications.

Discrete vs Continuous Probability

 5 minutes

This beginner-level Stats Starter outlines the similarities and differences between discrete and continuous probabilities.

Stats Starters are easily digestible overviews that allow learners to explore a single foundational statistics concept and its application to forensic evidence. Each Stats Starter video includes an introduction and overview of the concept, statistical models and theories, and examples and applications.

Bayes' Rule

 5 minutes

This beginner-level Stats Starter introduces Bayes' Rule—or Bayes' Theorem—and how it applies to forensic evidence.

Stats Starters are easily digestible overviews that allow learners to explore a single foundational statistics concept and its application to forensic evidence. Each Stats Starter video includes an introduction and overview of the concept, statistical models and theories, and examples and applications.

Statistical Thinking for Forensic Practitioners

 8 hours

In this asynchronous short course, Dr. Hal Stern introduces fundamental concepts from probability and statistics—motivated by forensic issues—followed by a detailed investigation of how they apply to assess forensic evidence's probative value.

This course should take learners approximately eight hours to complete and is available immediately to learn at your own pace.

Forensic Stats 101 (Enrollment fee required)

 30 hours

This 30-hour course equips you to address the core concepts of probability and statistics and their application to today's issues in forensic science—no matter your prior knowledge of statistics. The course is self-paced and available for you to start immediately.

Note: Forensic Stats 101 requires an enrollment fee and, therefore, is not automatically included in this grouping of learning opportunities. To enroll in Forensic Stats 101, please add it to your cart here.
